Dr. Nelson O’Ceallaigh Ritschel is retired Professor of Humanities at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He received his Ph.D. in Dramatic Literature and Theatre History from Brown University. His books include The 1920s London-Irish Theatre: A History (Routledge 2025), Bernard Shaw, Sean O’Casey, and the Dead James Connolly (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021), Bernard Shaw, W. T. Stead, and the New Journalism (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017), Shaw, Synge, Connolly, and Socialist Provocation (University Press of Florida, 2011), and Synge and Irish Nationalism: The Precursor to Revolution (Greenwood Press, 2002) Dr. Ritschel has also delivered papers for the American Conference for Irish Studies, the International Shaw Society, and the Eugene O’Neill Society.
